Hot Tub Maintenance in UAE Heat: What Owners Need to Know in Summer

Looking after a hot tub is simple once you know the steps. In summer, your tub just needs a little more care than in winter. The heat, the sun, the dust, and using the tub more often all make the water get dirty faster. The good news is that it only takes a few minutes, a few times a week. This guide shows you how, step by step.

Why your hot tub needs more care in summer

In hot weather, three things change:

  • The water gets dirty faster. Heat, sun cream, sweat and body oils all make it less clean.
  • The cleaning chemicals get used up quicker. So you need to add them more often than in winter.
  • The water level drops. Heat makes water dry up (evaporation). So you need to add more water.

None of this is hard. You just check the water more often and top it up sooner.

Easy tip: ask everyone to take a quick shower before getting in. This keeps the water much cleaner and saves you work.

Check your water twice a week

In summer, check your water about twice a week. Also check it before a party, or when many people will use the tub.

Use a test strip. Dip it in the water, wait a few seconds, then match the colours to the guide on the box. It shows you if the water is clean and balanced. If it is not, add the chemical it points to, and follow the instructions on the pack.

A few simple things that help:

  • If the water has a strong chemical smell, it usually means the water needs cleaning, not that there is too much chemical. Test it to be sure.
  • Once a week, add a stronger clean (often called a "shock"). This clears out the oils, sun cream and dirt that the normal chemicals miss, and keeps the water clear.
  • Not sure what to use, or how much? Ask our team, or let us take care of it with a maintenance plan.

Keep the water topped up

Heat makes water dry up faster, so the level drops quicker in summer. If the water gets too low, it can damage the pump and heater. Check the level often and add water when it looks low. Adding a little water often is better than a lot at once.

If the water drops very fast, or you see wet patches around the base, you may have a leak. Get it checked instead of just adding more water.

Clean the filter more often

The filter catches dirt and keeps your water clean. In summer it works harder, so you must clean it more often.

  • Rinse the filter with a hose every two weeks. Do it more often after a party or on dusty days.
  • Once a month, soak it in a filter cleaner for a deeper clean.
  • Keep a spare filter. Then you can put the clean one in while the other one dries.
  • Replace the filter when it looks worn out or will not come clean.

Protect your hot tub from sun and dust

The UAE sun and dust are hard on a hot tub. A little care protects it:

  • Keep the cover on when you are not using the tub. It keeps out dust and sun, and stops water drying up.
  • The sun damages covers over time. Clean the cover with mild soap and water, then add a UV protector so it does not crack or fade. Do the same for the cabinet around the tub.
  • Put the tub in the shade if you can, under a pergola or cover. Shade keeps the water cooler and protects the tub.
  • Run the filter system at least 4 hours a day to keep the water clear. Our team sets this up for you when we install the tub.
  • Wipe the tub and scoop out dust and leaves often. Clean the inside with a soft, non-scratch cleaner when you change the water.

What to do if the water gets too hot

Sometimes in summer, the water gets hotter than the level you set. This is normal. The tub makes a little heat on its own, and in hot weather it can build up.

To cool it down:

  • Lift the cover a little to let the heat out. Some covers have a part you can remove for this.
  • Open the cover at night to cool the water faster.
  • Set a lower temperature for summer.

Change the water every few months

Even with good care, the water needs changing from time to time. Over months, it collects too much dirt to clean. Drain and refill the tub every few months, or sooner if you use it a lot, or if the water looks cloudy or foamy.

When the tub is empty, clean the inside, the jets and the cover before you fill it again. It is also a good time to check the pump and jets for any problems.

Your simple summer hot tub checklist

  • Before each use: look at the water, check the level, and shower first.
  • Twice a week: test the water and fix it if needed.
  • Once a week: add a stronger clean, scoop out dust, top up the water, wipe the edges.
  • Every two weeks: rinse the filter.
  • Once a month: deep-clean the filter, clean and protect the cover.
  • Every few months: drain, clean and refill.
  • Once a year: get a professional check.

If something seems wrong (the water stays cloudy, the chemicals run out fast, there is foam, or the tub sounds different), ask for help instead of adding more chemicals. You can see HotTubKart's care tips on the maintenance page, or let a technician handle everything with a maintenance plan.

Hot tub maintenance in the UAE: common questions

How often should I check my hot tub water in summer? About twice a week, and before a party or heavy use. Hot weather and more use make the water dirty faster, so it needs checking more often than in winter.

Why does my hot tub water go cloudy in summer? Usually because the water is getting dirty faster than it is being cleaned. Heat, sun cream, body oils and sweat all add to it. Test the water and fix the balance, add a stronger clean once a week, and clean the filter more often. Asking everyone to shower before getting in helps a lot.

How often should I clean my hot tub filter in the UAE? Rinse it with a hose every two weeks, and more often after a party or on dusty days. Soak it in filter cleaner about once a month. Replace it when it is worn out or will not come clean.

Why is my hot tub hotter than the level I set? In hot weather, the tub can heat up a little on its own. This is normal. Lift the cover to let heat out, open it at night, and set a lower temperature for summer.

Do I need to add water more often in summer? Yes. Heat makes water dry up faster, and low water can damage the pump and heater. Check the level often and add a little water when it looks low. If it drops very fast, check for a leak.

How often should I change the water in my hot tub? Every few months, or sooner if you use it a lot, or the water looks cloudy or foamy. When it is empty, clean the inside, jets and cover before filling it again.
